Summary

This book was given to me as a birthday gift by someone very near and dear to my heart. They were perceptive enough to realize some of my health struggles resembled what Padma went through while listening to her on the radio. They mentioned it and before I could even research, I found this book on my dinner table.

I grew up watching Padma on television and never once thought to look into her life. This is a bittersweet memoir of her upbringing, her personal story of family, love, health, and her career. In between, she shares some recipes. I quite enjoyed the read and it made me feel heard - the work that Padma has done to educate others about endometriosis is admirable. I have to thank her in shedding light on a condition so few of us know about. This condition once paralyzed me - and it takes a lot of courage, a lot of patience, understanding to be friends with someone who is fighting their battle with endometriosis. I am happy to say I am no longer in the dark and have since learned how to manage it for myself. I will delve into that later on in a separate post but for me, this book started my own personal healing on the matter.

I would recommend this book to

  • If you are interested in reading about the experiences of strong immigrant women

  • You are interested in reading about true accounts of love - as Padma opens her heart to the world and shares her love stories

  • You want to feel less alone in the battle of endometriosis

  • You are a fan of Padma Lakshmi
